The choir wore red, white and blue for two performances of Pom-tiddledy-Pom in August 2008. This light-hearted programme of English songs was devised, narrated and conducted by Mark Rosser, who braved the winter storms each week to travel from Auckland to Papakura for rehearsals. Myra Smith accompanied on piano and soloists were Morag McDowell, Jonathan Palmer and Jeffery Chang. The first performance was given on Tuesday evening at the Papakura RSA after a hearty dinner enjoyed by choir and audience together. The Sunday afternoon performance at Crossroads Church was followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea.
In the presence of royalty graciously impersonated by two willing audience members and with the union jack prominently displayed, God Save the Queen was staunchly rendered by choir and audience. Music of a variety of styles and degrees of seriousness followed including songs by Elton John, Lennon & McCartney, Gilbert & Sullivan, Lionel Bart, and Handel and concluding with the patriotic I vow to thee my country and Jerusalem.
